Who am I?

Born in 2000, I attended the practical Jazz course at the Luís Villas Boas Jazz School, where I learned from Ricardo Toscano. In 2018, I started a bachelor’s in Jazz Saxophone at Escola Superior de Música de Lisbon, with Desidério Lázaro, Pedro Moreira, Nelson Cascais, Gonçalo Marques and Afonso Pais, completing the degree in 2021. I also took lessons with Peter Evans between 2020 and 2021 and with Yedo Gibson from 2021 to 2023.

In the fall of 2023, I enrolled in the NoCom (Nordic Master: the composing musician) at the RMC of Copenhagen, leaving my parents’ house for the first time. Being a travelling master, I spent the first semester in Copenhagen studying with Lotte Anker, Peter Bruun and Kasper Tranberg and my second semester in Oslo with Torben Snekkestad.

In my third semester, in Gothemburg, I delved into composition and counterpoint with Merje Kägu, Thomas Markusson and Joel Eriksson. Finally, I returned to Copenhagen and, under Lotte’s guidance, wrote my master project’s music for a sextet of 5 prepared musicians and 1 wildcard (to be revisited in the future)

In Jazz.pt’s critic, they said once that I was “one of the most interesting young musicians of the portuguese scene” (Nuno Catarino in Jazz.pt). That’s a nice quote to have on your CV.

Having studied cinema for 3 years in high school, I often work with my friend and short films director Francisco Miguel, through composition and execution of soundtracks for his video art shorts, as is the case of Sargo (2018), Thirst Aid (2019) and Quelimane (2020).

Back in Portugal, I was a member of projects related to the area of dance, as is the case of the TETO collective – a research project that aims to deepen improvisation/composition tools transversal to sound and movement – and the Sonic Voyaging project (group of improvised dance/music).

I also work as a sideman for Treze, Filipa Franco Quinteto, Francisco Nogueira Quinteto and S.E Pony.

I’ve had the luck and privilege of playing with musicians such as Peter Evans, Michael Formanek, Audrey Chen, Kresten Osgood, Bart Maris, Adele Viret, Margaux Oswald, Nazaré da Silva, João Pereira, Nelson Cascais, João Valinho,Samuel Gapp and the Hotclub de Portugal Jazz Orchestra. As mentioned before, I’ve studied privately with musicians such as Peter Evans and Yedo Gibson but also with Fabrizio Cassol Perico Sambeat, Jacob Sacks, and Chris Pitsiokos

I’ve lived mostly in Copenhagen since 2023
